Portscatho

Nestled on the Roseland Penninsular is this fine village. The sloping hill down to the waters edge gives nearly all of Portscatho un-interrupted wonderful breathtaking views of the Cornish coast. Benefiting of this high vantage point you can see for miles upon miles the ragged and stunning coastline.

Not up for a walk and fancy a quiet time away from home, this is the place to be, enjoy a Cornish pint of ale in The Plume of Feathers, a hot chocolate and slice of cake in the Boathouse or how about a gin and tonic and some freshly caught Cornish fish for supper in the Royal Standard!

Portscatho has an annual fish festival with the first one on the 3rd August 2013. The Portscatho fish festival was inspired by the St Mawes Fish Festival.

If you would like to cook for yourselves then Portscatho has some of the finest food outlets, choose from the generously stocked Ralphs food store for the side orders, award winning butchers where the service feels traditionally old fashioned and even local veg can be purchased from the Petrol Garage in Gerrans. Stroll down the shore when the fishing boats are returning home, have a quiet word with the skipper and I'm sure a few fresh mackerel can be handsomely netted!

Spindrift gallery has some of the most exquisite and delicate pieces of handmade jewellery I can honestly say I've ever seen amongst some of the great paintings of landscapes from the local artists. Even if you are just after a small gift this is the place to come.

Adjoining Porscatho is the smaller village of Gerrans. Here can be found the largest Primary School as well as the very interesting Heritage Centre. Learn more about where gig racing came from and why it's still so popular and why old farming methods are still used to this very day.

The main Doctors surgery is half way between the villages, this is a great practice with a great team of doctors and nurses alike! Lets face it we all hope not to need one but boy are we thankful when we do!

For the sporty lot the Harbour Club right on the front offers a gym, squash club and film evenings for the family. On a few weekends the club hosts disco's and some cracking live bands for those who like a sing along!

Although there is no bank in Portscatho, most transactions can safetly and securely be completed in the friendly post office. Stuie the post master can even organise your dry cleaning! The most delicious Cornish Ice creams can be purchased here and the beach couldn't be closer to enjoy them on!
